While adding piston rings, put the I.D. mark that faces up, so the top of the piston is closest to it. The first steps are to fit the oil ring expander, then go on to the upper oil ring side rail, the lower oil ring side rail and then finally add the No.2 intermediate piston ring and the No.1 upper piston ring. Held padded against the piston folder, place one end of the side rail in the area between the piston ring and the expander, gently press down and make sure not to use a piston ring expander. Screw in the upper side rail first, attach the lower side rail next and end with the No.2 piston ring followed by the No.1 piston ring. Make sure the end gaps of the piston rings are correct and that the oil ring expander gap measures not less than 450 in distance from the side rail gaps, as burying it in the piston pin area or in the direction of movement will limit its function.
