2003 Jeep Liberty Air Bag Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How Does an Air Bag Sensor Ensure Safety During Servicing on 2003 Jeep Liberty?
A: To operate on a vehicle including air bags, you must first cut off power to the supplemental restraint system, isolate the battery negative cable and wait for two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge. A front impact sensor is required for front supplemental restraint deployment and it should not be hit or dropped because it may be damaged; when a sensor is accidentally dropped, it must be removed and a replacement sensor should be purchased. Before removing the front impact sensor, take out the negative battery cable and wait a while for the capacitor to discharge. After that, remove the two screws on the front impact sensor, left impact sensor and shim (2.4L engine only) or left impact sensor and bracket unit (diesel engine only) fastened to the back of the radiator support vertical member. After feeding the headlamp and dash wire harness out of the engine compartment, disconnect the sensor connector and take out the sensor. Set the sensor back into place in the engine compartment, then attach and secure the headlamp and dash wire harness connector. Use the screws to secure the sensor to the radiator support vertical member, but don't tighten them past 7 Nm (65 in. lbs.). Be sure to wait until after all air bag system component replacement tests are passed before reconnecting the battery negative cable.
