2004 Jeep Liberty Air Bag Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service an Air Bag Sensor for Side Impact on 2004 Jeep Liberty?
A: Before dealing with the side impact sensor on a vehicle with air bags, first switch the supplemental restraint system off, remove the battery negative cable, isolate it and let two minutes go by to empty the system capacitor. Don't try to strike or drop the sensor, since any damage or adjustment problems could result in having to replace it. Begin by going to the front seat furthest from the B-pillar you want to clean and set it to its furthest forward setting, then remove the lower trim from the B-pillar. Following that, unscrew the side impact sensor from the lower B-pillar and remove the body harness connector from the sensor. Once the sensor has been detached from the passenger compartment, set the new sensor close to the lower B-pillar, hook up the body wire harness ensuring that the pin works and install the screw, torquing it to 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.). Install the lower B-pillar trim, but do not restore power to the negative side of the battery until the supplemental restraint system verification test is complete after the service.
