2004 Chrysler Crossfire Seat Belt Parts and Q&A

  • Q: Are Your Seat Belt and Child Restraint Anchors Due for Inspection and Replacement on 2004 Chrysler Crossfire?
A: Check all seat belts, buckles, hardware, retractors, tether straps and anchors for good connection and no damage after finishing an installation of any seat belt or child restraint. Replace belts that have cuts, frayed edges or tears, straighten twisted belts, tighten any loose fasteners and change belts that have a damaged or inoperative buckle or retractor, plus any belt with a bent or broken latch or anchor plate. It's important to change out any anchor or built-in unit that has been damaged or is bent. Never try to fix a seat belt or child restraint component; instead, use the DaimlerChrysler Mopar parts catalog to purchase the matching, new and unused parts for replacement. Don't open up your seat belt tensioners and don't use any oil or grease when there are noises. Just before starting work, remove the negative battery cable and let the discharge of the system capacitor take approximately two minutes. Take out the key from the ignition, then undo the bolts on the seat belt and door opening, remove the plastic covers, the door edge guard and the belt guide. Look in the corner of the roof, fold back the carpet, separate the Sets Squib harness connector, undo the bolt holding the Set to the roof and take out the Set. Make sure to use the Drbiii(R) to look at the Seat Belt Tensioner (Set), record any DTCs and inspect the ignition Squib. First, position the Set in the car and secure it with the vehicle bolt; set the tightness to 10 Nm. Connect the Set Squib harness, put in the upper seat belt bolt, secure it with a 35 Nm tightness, cover the seat with the plastic part, fasten with 3 screws through the door opening, apply the door edge guard, attach the bottom seat belt with bolt and tighten it to 35 Nm and put the ignition key into the vehicle. Keep the negative cable from the battery unconnected for now, because the additional restraint system check needs to be done when any of its components are serviced.
