2004 Chrysler Pacifica Parking Brake Shoe Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace Parking Brake Shoes on 2004 Chrysler Pacifica?
A: Before getting rid of the parking brake shoes, set the parking brake handbrake to lock, make sure the vehicle is raised and sitting firmly on supporting equipment. Raise and remove the rear wheel, take out the rear hub and bearing and then remove the parking brake cable bolt at the knuckle. Turn the adjuster all the way counterclockwise or anticlockwise, so none of the adjustment is made, then remove the upper brake shoe adjuster spring, the adjuster itself, the upper brake shoe hold-down clip and pin and the lower brake shoe hold-down clip and pin. Return springs are then removed from both the artist's upper and lower shoes and then from the shoe actuator. The return spring is to be sandwiched between the upper and lower shoes, with the actuator hooked on the rear cable placed "UP" before putting on the shoes on the actuator. First, put the lower brake shoe hold-down pin into the rear of the support and lower shoe, then the hold-down clip and repeat these steps for the upper shoe. Place the adjuster with the star wheel facing up, plus the parking brake shoe adjuster spring and secure the parking brake cable to the knuckle by screwing a bolt to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs. of torque). Take the inside diameter measurement of the parking brake drum on your rotor, using a Brake Shoe Gauge convenient for you. Wheel it on and off with the adjuster star wheel so that both parking brake linings just come into contact with the gauge jaws when the drum is stationary. Next, attach the hub and wheel sensor bearing to the wheel using all needed components, let the car rest on the ground, disengage the auto adjuster in the parking brake lever and finish adjusting the parking brake shoes.
