2005 Chrysler Pacifica Parking Brake Shoe Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install Parking Brake Shoes on 2005 Chrysler Pacifica?
A: To remove the two parking brake shoes, first turn off the automatic adjuster inside the lever, lift the vehicle using a jack and put on stands. Remove the cover from the back wheel hub and the associated bearing and undo the parking brake cable bolt at the knuckle. Once the adjustment is off, remove the parking brake shoe adjustment spring, shoe adjuster, hold-down spring clip and pin and upper and lower hold-down clip and pin. Then, take out the upper and lower shoes and the return spring from the shoe actuator and later remove the return spring from the shoes as well. To install, put the return spring in the gap between the upper and lower shoes, so that the actuator hooked to the read cable has "UP" facing out, then put the shoes on the actuator. Install a lower brake shoe hold-down pin through the rear of the support and lower brake shoe. Then attach the hold-down clip and repeat for the upper brake shoe. First, put the end with the star wheel up onto the shoe, then add the parking brake shoe adjuster spring to the other end. Link the parking brake cable to the knuckle using the bolt and tighten it to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.) torque. With the Brake Shoe Gauge, Special Tool C-3919 or an equivalent, check the internal diameter of the parking brakes, placing the part over the widest section of the parking brake shoes. Operate the adjuster star wheel to get the linings on both shoes to contact the jaws on the gauge, giving you the basic adjustment. Afterward, mount the hub and bearing with the wheel speed sensor and put in all other parts. Raise the vehicle, release the parking brake automatic adjuster and finish adjusting the shoes.
