How to Safely Service a Heater Core on 2004 Dodge Dakota?

On vehicles equipped with air bags, disconnect and set aside the negative (ground) cable from the battery to turn off the air bag system and let two minutes go by so the air bag capacitor drains. Start by taking off the housing and the seal from the heater core tubes and then open the housing to reach the heater core underneath. Elevate the heater core gently from the housing area of the HVAC system. At installation, insert the heater core back into the housing, put the foam seal on the heater core tubes and reconnect the HVAC housing.
