2004 Dodge Durango Exhaust Manifold Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install Exhaust Manifolds on 2004 Dodge Durango?
A: To get at the right exhaust manifold, unplug the negative battery cable, raise the vehicle and loosen the bolts and fasteners joining the exhaust pipe to the engine exhaust manifold. Before removing anything else, first bring the truck down, then remove the heat shield before the manifold can be unbolted. Similarly, for the left exhaust manifold, you should remove the negative cable from the battery, raise the car, take off the exhaust pipe, lower it, take away the heat shields, remove all the bolts and washers and pull out the manifold and gasket. In case the nuts and studs came out from the manifold as you pulled it out, put in new studs with a sealer on the water outlet side to stop water seeping in. Apply conical washers and nuts to the two studs on the cylinder head, place the manifold and gasket over them and tighten the bolts and nuts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) torque, going from the center to the outer side of the cylinder head. Add the heat shields around the exhaust system, use stands to support and raise the vehicle and do not tighten too hard to stop the shields from bending. Then, join the exhaust pipe to the manifold, using bolts, nuts and retainers and tighten them to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.) torque. Perform the installation of the left exhaust manifold exactly as before, if not already sealed, put sealer on the new studs.
