2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Brake Booster Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Brake Booster on 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Before servicing or repairing the vacuum brake booster, remove the master cylinder and then disconnect the vacuum hose at the booster check valve. Following that, take off the retainer clip fastened to the pedal pin and slide the booster push rod off. The next step is to remove the four nuts holding the booster to the dashboard. Up in the engine area, position the booster forward, raise it slightly and then take it out. If the grommet that supports the check valve in the booster is cut, torn or loose, change it. Add a replacement booster dash seal, place the booster panel against the dash on the engine side and grease the pedal pin with Mopar multi-mileage grease. Put the booster attaching nuts on the studs and tighten them to 39 Nm (29 ft. lbs.). Attach the booster push rod to the pedal pin and use the retainer clip to make sure it does not move. Located in the engine housing, fit the vacuum hose to the booster check valve and place the master cylinder on with a fresh gasket and nuts, observing the installation instructions to prevent damage. In the end, bleed air out of the whole brake system.
