2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Brake Disc Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Machine Brake Discs with the Quadra Drive System on 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Any vehicle using the Quadra Drive System with both the NV-247 transfer case and Vari-Lok differentials should have its driveshaft removed from the axle near the brake discs and its brake calipers temporarily taken out while machining the discs to slow down the on-vehicle lathe and speed up the process. After reinstalling, cover the bolts on the driveshaft with thread lock material. According to experts, mounting the hub lathe to the vehicle allows the disc to be trued exactly to the hub/bearing. The disc should be put on a lathe and the lathe must use double cutter heads to machine both sides at once if the disc brake disc faces scoring or wears. Make certain that the disc mounting surface is clean before attaching it to the lathe, in case your machine only carves one side. Any brake disc that does not measure up to the required thickness should be changed, no matter if it was before or after being machined.
