2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Front Parking Brake Cable on 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Take off the center console and gently lift the rear seat together with the carpet that's over the parking brake cables. Using a screwdriver, pull back the front cable on the inside of the safe through its eyelet, just as an assistant opens the lock out spring on the outside. After that, unplug the front cable end from the equalizer and the parking brake lever and take off the front carpet. Unscrew the nuts on the front cable retainers from the floor, use a 13 mm wrench to squeeze the holders and gently remove the cable from the parking brake lever bracket and equalizer bracket. Place the new cable into the brackets at the parking brake and equalizer. After that, secure the cable to the floor pan with retainer nuts and attach the front to the parking brake lever and equalizer. After you've installed the front carpet, pull the lever to release the lock out spring and then slide the center console back in place. Next, fold the rear carpet cover and seat down.
