2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Speed Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain a Speed Sensor on the Rear Wheel on 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: First, raise the rear seat and fold it forward and then move the carpeting to find the wire connectors of the sensor. Disconnect the wire from the rear sensor at the harness connectors and then push both wires and their grommets through the floor pan's holes. Support the vehicle and then remove the sensor wire from the axle, chassis brackets and the retainers attached to the brake line. Take out the sensor and sensor mounting bolt from the rear brake backing plate. To install, insert the new sensor between the backing plate and the car's original sensor mounting bracket and use Mopar Lock N' Seal or Loctite 242 around the old sensor bolt along with a new bolt. Screw the sensor bolt to a torque between 12 and 14 Nm, fasten the sensor wire to the brackets and retainers attached to the rear brake line and check that it does not come into contact with rotors. Bring the sensor wires to the rear seat location, pass them through the access hole in the floor pan and seat the grommets into the floor of the vehicle. Get rid of the support and bring the vehicle down and after that fold the rear seat and the carpet up to reach the sensor wires and their connectors. After that, attach the sensor wires to the connectors and readjust the carpet before you lower the rear seat.
