2004 Jeep Liberty Rod Bearing Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Rod Bearing on 2004 Jeep Liberty?
A: First, measure the connecting rod bearing clearance with Plastigage and then do not change the connecting rod bearing bolts. Before setting the new bolts in place, oil the inside of each bolt with clean engine oil. Finger tighten each bolt first and go ahead to torque each bolt in turn to put the cap together properly. Tighten the bolts using your hand to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.) and then turn them another 1/4 turn. After that, accurately measure the clearance between the connecting rod and the crankshaft with a feeler gauge.
