2004 Jeep Liberty Shock Absorber Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain the Left Side Shock Absorber on 2004 Jeep Liberty?
A: To work on the left side shock absorber, you should start by disconnecting the battery and then lift it and the battery tray to remove them from the car after having moved the power center off to the side. Remove the battery temperature sensor from where it peers into the battery and then rob off the four upper nuts holding the car's shock mounts to the engine bay. Support the vehicle and remove the left tire and wheel team. Loosen the lower bolt on the clevis bracket in the lower control, then ease out the stabilizer link and the nut for the lower ball joint. Use tool C-4150A to unattach the lower ball joint from the lower control arm and afterward, drop the control arm down to get at it. Unbolt the clevis bracket at the shock and lift out the shock assembly and remove the spring if you can. For installation, if you took out the spring, set it on the shock, fit the shock assembly to the car and tighten the four upper shock mounting nuts to 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.). On the shock, mount the clevis bracket fastening the bolt to 88 Nm (65 ft. lbs.), then fit the lower control arm below, tightening the lower ball joint nut to 81 Nm (60 ft. lbs.). Attach the clevis bracket at the lower control arm and secure it with a bolt tightened to 150 Nm (110 ft. lbs). Then, fit the lower control arm stabilizer link and tighten the bolt to 136 Nm (100 ft. lbs.). Place the left tire and wheel assembly back in and lower the vehicle, reattach the battery temperature sensor, add the battery tray and battery and connect the battery cables back.
