2004 Jeep Liberty Wheel Bearing Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair Wheel Bearings on an 8 1/4 Inch Rear Axle on 2004 Jeep Liberty?
A: To work on the bearings and seals of an 8 1/4 inch rear axle, first lift and secure the vehicle and then pull out the axle shaft. Take out the axle shaft seal with a pry bar, as you can also remove the bearing at the same time using a bearing removal tool. After that, join the Bearing Removal Tool Set 6310 with Adapter Foot 6310-9 to remove the axle shaft bearing. While installing, be sure to clean all traces of older sealer and remove all burrs from the axle tube bore. Hold the bearing bearing for the axle shaft by its part number facing toward the Installer C-4198, then install using Handle C-4171. After that, put in a new axle seal by using the same installer and handle, so the tool properly contacts the axle tube for correct placement. Before placing the axle shaft back, apply some axle lubricant on the seal's lip as added protection. Installing the axle shaft requires you to then check the gear lubricant, fill it and add the wheel and tire assembly. Lay the car on the ground by removing the support.
