2005 Chrysler Pacifica Brake Booster Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Brake Booster on 2005 Chrysler Pacifica?
A: The first step for servicing the power brake booster is to push the driver's seat all the way to the back and disconnect the negative battery cable. Either take out the battery from your vehicle or shut off the circuit breaker to disable it. Pump the brake pedal down with the power brake booster while stopping the engine to make the feeling firm in the pedal; then remove the master cylinder from the power brake booster. Remove the coolant recovery bottle by unfastening the nuts and then put it back on with the hoses fixed to it. Spray all surfaces of the brake fluid reservoir and master cylinder, with the focus on the attachment with the power brake booster, using either Mopar Brake Parts Cleaner or a similar product. Separate the brake fluid level switch's connection from the wiring harness located in the master cylinder reservoir and split the primary and secondary brake tubes here too. Place caps on the open tube ends and insert sealing plugs into the ICU open ports. Unscrew the two nuts holding the master cylinder to the power brake booster and remove it straight out. Insert the vacuum seal on the back of the master cylinder, making sure you don't pry it while removing. Lift the bolts on each end of the ABS ICU bracket from the frame, free it and move it to the transaxle. First, pull the vacuum hose from the check valve on the booster, take out the knee blocker air bag, use a small screwdriver to loosen and discard the retaining clip and then remove the booster push rod from the brake pedal pin. Slide the booster push rod off the brake pedal pin, unattach and throw away the brake lamp switch and remove the nuts holding the power brake booster in place. Slide the brake booster toward you and lift it up from the front of your car. When installing, take care to position a new seal around the push rod and studs on the back of the booster giving you access to the engine bay. Screw in the four mounting nuts and tighten them until they reach 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.) torque. Push the booster push rod down onto the pin in the brake pedal, then clip it securely into place. Introduce and adjust a new brake light switch, then put back in the knee blocker air bag and all other needed items. Hang the ABS ICU on the support bracket, center it on the bolts in the rail and then press the mounting bolts to 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) torque. Attach a new vacuum seal to the rear of the master cylinder, making it fit straight in its groove and then attach the master cylinder to the power brake booster, matching up the booster push rod with the master cylinder piston. Put on both mounting nuts and tighten each one to 25 Nm or 225 inch lbs. Feed the primary and secondary brake tubes into the ICU ports, checking they are properly held while being tightened, as this helps keep the flex section in place and set each tube nut to 14 Nm (120 inch lbs.) torque. Fasten the wiring harness to the brake fluid level switch, secure the coolant recovery bottle in its regular spot and fit the fastening nuts. Replace the battery, link up the cables, fill the master cylinder using Mopar Brake Fluid or a matching equivalent and bleed the brakes. Check how the brakes are functioning when the car is driven on the road.
