2005 Chrysler Pacifica Brake Caliper Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Caliper on 2005 Chrysler Pacifica?
A: The first thing to do is disconnect the battery negative cable and use a tool to hold down the brake pedal, beyond where it stops, so the master cylinder cannot send pressure to the hydraulic brake system. Raise the vehicle and remove the wheel and tire away from it. Loosen the screw connecting the brake hose to the caliper and get rid of the worn seals, since you need to fit new ones in a while. With the C-Clamp, pull back on the caliper pistons, but don't go too far and move the caliper in toward the wheel. Remove the inboard brake shoe from the caliper pistons by firmly prying it, next, remove the caliper guide pin bolts and drag the caliper off the pads. Drain the brake fluid, assemble the caliper in a vise with special holding blocks and put wood underneath the pistons for padding before removing them. Breath out short blasts of air, making sure the empty bore is covered with a C-clamp and a wood block. Be careful to unbolt the piston dust boots and seals so that you don't damage the bore, after which you should clean and inspect the piston bore. Add fresh brake fluid to the pistons, seals and bores while assembling and put in new seals and boots, then guide the pistons into their positions. Attach the bleeder screw to the caliper and bolt the caliper to the brake caliper adapter, tightening the upper guide pin bolt to 43 Nm (32 ft. lbs.) before you tighten the lower bolt. Reconnect the banjo with fresh washers and tighten it to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). After that, fit the tire and wheel, tightening the nuts to a torque setting of 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.). Reduce the vehicle, take out the brake pedal holding tool, attach the negative cable to the battery, bleed the brakes if necessary and check them on the road.
