2006 Chrysler Pacifica Brake Booster Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Booster on 2006 Chrysler Pacifica?
A: Before servicing or repairing the power brake booster, switch the driver's seat to the most rearward point and then unplug the negative battery cable at the battery post. Take out the battery from your car. Before taking out the master cylinder from the power brake booster, press the brake pedal until you feel a firm push, ensuring that the engine isn't running. With the fastening nuts removed, position the coolant recovery bottle as you remove it from the car and carefully clean the reservoir and master cylinder's surfaces and the area where the master cylinder attaches to the power brake booster using Mopar Brake Parts Cleaner or a similar cleaner. Take the wiring harness connector out of the brake fluid level switch in the master cylinder brake fluid reservoir. Also, remove the brake tubes from the ABS ICU, cover them and connect sealing plugs in the empty ports. Pull out the two nuts joining the master cylinder to the power brake booster and pull the master cylinder out straight. Reattach the vacuum seal in the rear of the master cylinder, but do so without prying it on. Remove both bolts fastening the bracket to the frame and remember to lower the ICU onto the transaxle. Loosen the vacuum hose from the check valve on the booster, but don't pull the check valve out of the booster. To install, lift out the knee blocker air bag, unfasten the metal clip that holds the push rod onto the brake pin with a small screwdriver and put a new clip on it once you reinstall everything. Shift the booster push rod away from the brake pedal pin, discard the brake lamp switch and remove the four nuts holding the booster on the frame. Pull the power brake booster toward the front of the vehicle and take it out through the engine space. In order to install the booster, cover the push rod and studs with a new seal at the back of the booster and guide the entire unit through the engine area. Place the four mounting nuts onto the brackets and tighten them to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.), slide the booster push rod onto the brake pedal pin and secure it with a new retaining clip. Set in place and check a new brake lamp switch and then reset the knee blocker air bag plus all the required items. Place the ABS ICU back and secure it with the bolts down to 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). Add a new vacuum seal to the master cylinder's rear, making sure the seal is square in the groove and fits properly, then connect the master cylinder to the booster study, aligning the booster push rod with the master cylinder piston. Fit the two mounting nuts included with the master cylinder and tighten them to 25 Nm (225 inch lbs.). After that, thread the primary and secondary brake tubes into the ICU ports and tighten the nuts on each to 14 Nm (120 inch lbs.). Plug the wiring harness into the brake fluid level switch, position the coolant recovery bottle as it belonged and connect everything to the battery. Put clean and new Mopar Brake Fluid or an equivalent into the master cylinder, bleed the brakes and take the car for a road test to check the brakes.
