2006 Chrysler Pacifica Clock Spring Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Prepare for a Clock Spring Assembly Service on 2006 Chrysler Pacifica?
A: When you begin the Clock Spring assembly service, make sure the front wheels are facing directly straight ahead. Place the car in a forward position, take out the driver air bag from the steering wheel and disconnect the steering wheel from the steering column. After that, take out the upper and lower shrouds of the steering column and unplug the Clock Spring's wire harness connectors from below the column on the back of the Clock Spring case. After removing the two securing screws, lift out the whole Clock Spring case and, if it is damaged, change it out along with replacing the driver air bag. If the Clock Spring is being reused, attach its rotor to the case so it remains centralized until reinstallation takes place; but if it is not reused, the Clock Spring must be centered before it is placed in the movement. Before installing, place the front wheels directly forward, hold the stationary rotor and case in place and gently put the Clock Spring over the shaft on top of the steering wheel. Arrange and stabilize the three pins at the back bottom of the rotor hub so they are directly over the holes in the turn signal cancel cam hub; the top pin is wider than the others and should be fitted into its matching hole. Fit the one pin and two mounting ears into their holes in the multi-function housing and then screw the mounting screws until the torque is 2.5 N.m (22 in. lbs.). Place the instrument panel wire harness connectors for the Clock Spring onto the receptacles below the steering column, put back the upper and lower shrouds and torque the screw on the lower tilting steering column shroud to the multi-function switch mounting housing to 2 N.m (17 in. lbs.). If you replace the Clock Spring, remove the locking pin that holds the rotor in place. Secure the steering wheel to the steering column, put in the air bag for the driver and don't connect the negative battery cable until after the air bag system test to save yourself from injury or death. Test the vehicle and its systems and then shut the hood.
