2005 Dodge Durango Ball Joint Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain a Ball Joint on 2005 Dodge Durango?
A: You should take off the tire and wheel, then pull out the brake caliper along with its rotor to reach the lower ball joint. Unhook the tie rod from the steering knuckle at the bottom using tool 8677, then household tool to separate the lower ball joint from the steering knuckle. Take off the steering knuckle and, if you have a 4X4 vehicle, push the halfshaft to one side and support its weight. Rework the ball joint stakes until they are smooth and coat the threaded parts on the tool with plenty of heavy duty lubricant. Press the ball joint at the lower control arm by using C-4212-F (PRESS), 9331-1 (Driver) and 9331-2 (Receiver) special tools. When installing, lubricate the female part of the tool again and use C-4212-F (press), 9331-1 (Receiver) and 9331-3 (Driver) to install the ball joint in the control arm, then press it into place. Use the chisel and hammer to space out four stake holes around the ball joint flange. Support the halfshaft then remove it from the 4X4, afterward, fit it again, put on the steering knuckle and tie rod end. If your vehicle is equipped with a halfshaft, tighten the nut to 251 Nm (185 ft. lbs.). Then, replace the brake caliper and rotor and then set the tire and wheel assembly. Investigate the car's body height and do a wheel alignment.
