2006 Dodge Durango Ball Joint Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain a Ball Joint on 2006 Dodge Durango?
A: Taking away the tire and wheel assembly and then the caliper and rotor, is the first thing to do. Remove the tie rod from the steering knuckle by pulling it off with puller 8677 and then repeat that step to remove the lower ball joint. Lift out the steering knuckle and, for vehicles with all four wheels, move the half shaft close to the side so it won't obstruct you. Use a chisel to cut apart the ball joint stakes, then add very heavy weight lubrication oil to the threaded parts of the tool to keep it functioning and lasting for a long time during use and installation. Press the ball joint from the lower control arm with special tools C-4212-F, 9333-1 and 9333-2. Add lubrication to the pointed threaded areas then use C-4212-F, 9333-1 and 9333-3 to insert the ball joint into the control arm. Place four marks around the ball joint flange with a rounded end of a chisel and hit it in with a hammer. After taking the support for the half shaft off, place it back on for 4X4 models, then put in the steering knuckle and the tie rod end into the steering knuckle. After that, install the wheel and tire assembly, put the caliper and rotor in place and then tighten the half shaft nut to 251 Nm (185 ft. lbs.) if the car is so equipped. Review the vehicle's ride height and make sure the wheels are aligned.
