2005 Dodge Ram 3500 Brake Master Cylinder Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install a Brake Master Cylinder on 2005 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: For every model except Hydroboost, remove the brake master cylinder by depressing the brake pedal several times to rid the booster unit of vacuum and by draining the fluid from the reservoir. Remove the electrical connector marked for low fluid level and put a towel or rag underneath the brake master cylinder outlet port to shield the car from damage by brake fluid. Take off the brake lines and their nuts from the brake master cylinder, then slowly ease the brake master cylinder and reservoir assembly off the booster so that it's upright to the front of the booster. If your car is a Hydroboost model, first remove the brake lines and electrical connector for low fluid level, unscrew the mounting nuts from the brake master cylinder, then carefully pull it out straight forward so you don't disconnect the output rod. All models except Hydroboost must have the brake booster output rod adjusted and secured by an output rod retaining ring so it enters the brake master cylinder plunger sleeve. Make sure the shoulder of the brake master cylinder's flange and its neck are vacuum sealed, then, with the plunger headed over the output rod, install the brake master cylinder on the booster studs. Put on new nuts, secure them to 25 Nm and fit in the brake lines which should be tightened to 19 Nm. Then come to the end of the process by connecting the electrical connector and filling up and bleeding the brake master braking system. On your Hydroboost model, install the brake master cylinder onto the booster's studs, tighten the mounting nuts to 25 Nm, attach the brake lines at 19 Nm, connect the electrical line to the low fluid level switch and complete a base brake fluid bleed.
