2006 Jeep Liberty Tie Rod End Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Inspect and Replace Tie Rod End Seals During Oil Changes on 2006 Jeep Liberty?
A: As part of every oil change, inspect all seals on the tie rod and ball stud and if one is broken, you need to install a new tie rod. Having any steering component swapped, repaired or maintained always requires re-alignment to follow the vehicle's specifications. You should raise and prop up the vehicle, take off the tire and wheel assembly and mark the tie rod end jam nuts on the steering gear to make installation easier later. Loose the jam nut on the tie rod end, untwist the outer nut and pull the outer tie rod end from the knuckle by turning it around tool C3894A. After that, take out the outer tie rod end from the inner one. First, use the exact number of turns you found during removal to link the outer tie rod end to the inner end, then install the outer tie rod on the knuckle and tighten the nut to 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.). With the wheel and jam nut assembly, tighten the nut to 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.), reinstall the whole unit and center the steering wheel.
