• Q: How to Service a Washer Pump on 2005 Jeep Liberty?

  A: You must disconnect and separate the negative battery cable before accessing the windshield washer motor. Move the washer fluid from the reservoir into a clean jar and keep it for the next time you wash. Turn the steering wheel fully to the right and lift and support the vehicle. Take out the two plastic fasteners that hold the front wheelhouse splash shield at the forward end to the inner fender and front fascia. Separate the splash shield at the front edge from the fender and front fascia to let you reach the washer pump/motor. Take the two hoses off the pump/motor unit outlet nipples, then unplug the headlamp and dash wire harness from the connector on top of the motor housing. Pull the top of the washer pump/motor housing gently outwards from the reservoir, so the motor's top is free from the receptacle inside the housing. Lift out the washer pump/motor unit straight from the reservoir to disconnect the inlet nipple from the rubber grommet seal/filter screen inside and then remove and throw away the rubber grommet seal/filter screen. Installation requires putting a new rubber grommet seal/filter screen inside the washer pump hole which is found near the bottom of the reservoir. Securely connect the washer pump by pushing the inlet nipple down onto the rubber grommet seal/filter screen. Match the position of the washer pump/motor top to the hole in the reservoir and push it down to lock into place. Attach the black washer hose to the barbed nipple located behind the pump and connect the blue washer hose to the nipple in front. Move the forward section of the front wheelhouse splash shield back and put the plastic push-in fasteners back into place. Decrease the lift height, restore the battery negative cable and drink the saved washer fluid straight back into the reservoir.
