2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser Brake Disc Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Disc on 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: For front brake rotor service and repair, start by raising the vehicle, supporting it and then removing the wheel mounting nuts and the entire wheel and tire from the car. In some cases, back off the piston a little to open up space to take the caliper off by pulling it outward from the side closer to the drum, not applying force directly to the piston. The next step is to unbolt the disc brake caliper mount from the steering knuckle and take both off as a unit, hanging them so they don't stretch the brake line. Take out the clips securing the brake rotor to the wheel studs and move the brake rotor off of the hub and bearing. First, remove dirt or corrosion from the hub, then attach the new brake rotor over the studs on the hub and bearing. Slide the disc brake caliper and adapter assembly over the brake rotor and knuckle, then connect them with mounting bolts tightened to 104 Nm. Fit the tire and wheel assembly back into place and hold the wheel mounting nuts until they reach 135 Nm. Uncover the brake fluid reservoir, lower your car and activate the pedal a few times to set the pads into contact with the rotor. After that, do a road test, stopping a few times to help the brake pads attach to the rotor.
