2006 Dodge Dakota Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain the Passenger Air Bag on 2006 Dodge Dakota?
A: First, turn off the supplemental restraint system by unhooking and setting aside the battery negative cable. After two minutes, reconnect the cable with the battery. In the event that the air bag is broken or damaged and has not gone off, do what is recommended for fixes on supplementary restraints that haven't been activated; but if it has been deployed, read the procedures for servicing released air bags prior to removal. Cover your hands, eyes and arm with rubber gloves and a long-sleeved shirt whenever you take out a deployed air bag. You should begin by getting rid of the defroster grille and glove box under the instrument panel. Open the two screws attaching the passenger air bag lower bracket to the instrument panel backbone, then remove these screws. Use the small trim stick to gently lift the air bag door away from the instrument panel to remove the snap features. Pull the air bag away enough to connect the air bag inflator pigtail wire with the instrument panel wire harness connector. Slide the red Connector Position Assurance lock down and press the connector latch tab to disconnect the connector and then remove the air bag as a single component. Place the passenger air bag unit onto the instrument panel and link the wire harness back onto the unit, then confirm the latch and CPA are secured. Set the air bag onto place and attach it using the two screws, ensuring they are both tightened to 6 N.m (55 in. lbs). Hold down on the passenger air bag door and slide it into the hole until it attaches, then install the glove box and defroster grille. Never attach the negative battery cable until you have completed the supplemental restraint system verification test after servicing any particular part.
