2005 Dodge Dakota Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: What Steps Should Be Taken After an Air Bag Deployment on 2005 Dodge Dakota?
A: After a supplemental restraint has been activated, any car that returns to service must have the deployed restraints changed. After deployment of the driver air bag, the Clock Spring must be swapped; if the passenger air bag has deployed, you must replace the passenger air bag door. The seat belt tensioners which go off along with the front air bags, should be changed if either front air bag is deployed. Any side curtain air bag that has deployed must be replaced with a complete unit, as the damaged headliner, upper A, B and C-pillar trim could be too weak to fix, even if it looks fine. After deploying a side curtain air bag on a car with a sunroof, the drain tubes and hoses should be checked very closely. Be sure to inspect the areas and fasteners for the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC), side impact sensors and front impact sensors carefully after any damage to the vehicle, since unusual placement or loose fixing may cause the air bags to act in the wrong way. After any event calling for the air bag system to go off, every other vehicle component should be evaluated, with only necessary repairs being done if the damage is easily spotted.
