2006 Dodge Dakota Washer Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain a Washer Pump on 2006 Dodge Dakota?
A: Before you start working on the windshield washer pump, it's important to disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Empty the washer fluid from the reservoir into a neat container and pop the vehicle up to support it safely. The access point for the outboard lower surface of the combination washer reservoir/coolant reserve bottle is behind the right front wheel house shield and in front of the right front bumper support. Remove the wire harness plug from the washer pump and release the washer hose from the pump outlet nipple. Lift up on the top of the pump/motor block and move it backward to separate the motor housing from the reservoir's motor holder. Slide a trim stick or something similar under the pump's washer inlet nipple and gently lift it out of the seal in the reservoir along with the floorboard. Pull and throw away the rubber grommet seal from the mounting hole for the washer pump in the reservoir. When you install, fit a new rubber grommet seal into the hole at the front of the washer pump inside the sump chamber on the right-hand side of the combination bottle for reservoir and coolant reserve. Place the rubber grommet seal for the washer pump/motor nipple into the reservoir while keeping the rubber seal on the mounting retainer ring. Once this is done, tightly press the pump/motor unit down until the rubber seal makes contact with its rubber grommet counterpart inside the reservoir. It should be that the pump motor housing rests on the molded lip in the washer tank, then push it down to connect the two together. Attach the reservoir washer's hose to the pump outlet nipple and the wire harness connector to the receptacle on the top of the pump motor. Take the vehicle down to where you want it, top up the washer reservoir with the installed washer fluid and get the negative battery connection back in place.
