2006 Jeep Commander Brake Pad Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair Front Brake Pads on 2006 Jeep Commander?
A: Before you replace the brake pads, jack up the vehicle, center the wheel and remove it. Pump a little fluid out of the master cylinder brake reservoir using a clean suction gun. After that, unscrew both caliper mounting bolts, push the caliper inward and disconnect it from the adaptor. Attach the caliper to the suspension part near it with wire, making sure the brake hose is not carrying the weight. Pull the inboard and outboard brake pads out of the caliper adapter, then take the anti-rattle clips out of the same adapter. Get rid of all rust and debris from both surfaces of the anti-rattle clip mounts, then install new clips in the brake caliper adapter. Clamp the inboard and outboard brake pads onto the caliper adapter and next slide the caliper over the adapter. Set the bolts holding the caliper slide pin to 44 Nm (32 ft. lbs.), fix the wheel and tire on, take out the support and let the vehicle down. After that, press the brake pedal all the way down until the pads and pistons are stopped, so the pedal feels firm and solid and then fill the brake fluid.
