2006 Jeep Commander ABS Control Module Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an ABS Control Module on 2006 Jeep Commander?
A: Before servicing or repairing the Electronic Brake Control Module, remove the negative battery cable and put in a brake pedal prop rod. After siphoning the master cylinder, break off the HCU wires as well. Remove the main brake line at the master cylinder and from the HCU, then the secondary brake line from the HCU and master cylinder. Next, you need to remove the four chassis lines at the HCU and the nut and bolt securing the HCU bracket to your vehicle. First, remove the HCU with its bracket and then remove the three ABM bolts to split the ABM from the HCU. When you install an ABM, don't forget to run a scan tool to reprogram the module. Fit new seals around the connection, attach the ABM to the HCU and secure it by tightening the three mounting bolts so that they show 12 N.m (9 ft. lbs.) of force. Install the HCU on the vehicle, using the bracket and tighten the two mounting nuts. Reconnect the electrical connector from the HCU, install the chassis lines at the HCU, put the secondary brake tube at the HCU and master cylinder and finally put the primary brake tube at both locations. Next, hook up the negative car battery cable, take out the brake pedal prop rod, bleed both the base and ABS brake systems and set up ABS using your scan tool.
