2006 Jeep Commander Relay Block Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service the Relay Block on 2006 Jeep Commander?
A: Air bag services start by breaking the circuit to the air bag system by unplugging the black wire from the battery and then waiting two minutes till the capacitor empties. Pull on the top of the opening cover to remove the retained clips and then unscrew the screw from the bottom to take it out. Take out the bottom side Junction Block (JB) connectors and after that, you can disconnect the top side connector behind the JB. Take away the screws that hold the JB, detach the snap clips from underneath the junction block top and gently lift the top of the JB to come free from the lower tabs. Remove the JB by lowering it out of the void at the lowered instrument panel. When replacing the JB, take off all of the fuses, circuit breakers and relays from the JB that isn't working and add them to the proper locations on the replacement JB. Make sure to glance at the wiring diagrams to confirm where everything goes. Line up the JB in its proper place on the mounting bracket, so that its two lower retaining tabs fit into the bottom slots and the snap clips fit well into the ones at the top. Grab the JB and push it tight against the bracket so the snap clips are in place and use the four screws to secure it to the bracket, tightening each screw to 2 N.m (20 in. lbs.). Join the top connector to the top side and the bottom side wires to the JB. As your last step, insert the screw and press the top of the panel into place to connect the retaining clips before connecting the battery's negative cable once more.
