2006 Jeep Commander Air Bag Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service the Air Bag Sensor in the C-Pillar on 2006 Jeep Commander?
A: Before touching the side impact sensor in the C-pillar, first unplug and separate the battery's negative cable to disable the supplemental restraint system and then wait two minutes for the system's capacitor to drain. Pull off the quarter trim at the bottom of the C-pillar and pull the wire connector (4) away from the side impact sensor (2) connector receptacle. After that, remove the two screws (3) holding the sensor to the rear edge (1) and pull out the sensor. assured that the pin at the back of the new sensor (2) fits into the clearance hole on the C-pillar (1) when installed. Attach the sensor to the engine by screwing (3) to 8 N.m (70 in. lbs) and then put the body wire harness connector (4) back into the sensor connector receptacle. First, reinstall the quarter trim panel on the lower C-pillar, then skip connecting the battery negative cable, as you need to perform the supplemental restraint system verification test after working on any supplemental restraint part.
