2006 Jeep Commander Seat Belt Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Seat Belt and Retractor on 2006 Jeep Commander?
A: Check for correct installation, working and damage in the front seat belt and retractor. Replace any cut, frayed or torn belts and tighten all loose fasteners. Move the front seat all the way forward so you can reach the lower anchor cover and the B-pillar trim. First, remove the cover from the front seat cushion that's beside the door and then loosen the screw that holds the lower anchor onto the frame. Unlock the seat belt cover above the seat and remove the screw holding the turning loop into the height adjustment. Remove each of the upper and lower trims from the B-pillars. Locate the front seat belt seat belt opening in the inner B-pillar, fit the loop through it and unscrew the retractor bracket. Pull out the bight of the belt as you do so. You should make sure the retractor shield is place properly and in good order, only then should you insert the seat belt and retractor into the car. Screw on the retractor lower bracket so it is secured by 39 N.m (29 ft. lbs.) and feed the front seat belt turning loop and lower anchor into the lower B-pillar trim aperture. Place both the upper and lower trims back onto the B-pillar, without twisting the seat belt webbing. Attach the seat belt turning loop to the seat adjustment with a screw and secure tightly to 39 N.m (29 ft. lbs.), then snap the trim cover into its place. Secure the seat belt's lower anchor to the mounting hole on the front seat cushion frame, avoiding twisting the webbing and tighten it to 39 N.m (29 ft. lbs.) with the screw. After that, feed the lower anchor cover over the side air bag shield outside the front seat cushion.
