2006 Jeep Commander Washer Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain a Washer Pump on 2006 Jeep Commander?
A: Before servicing the windshield washer pump, first unhook and isolate the battery negative cable, steer the wheel to the left most position and lift your vehicle. Pop open the small push-in fasteners which hold the left front wheelhouse splash shield to the inner fender and front fascia, then remove the shield to access the washer pump/motor on the reservoir's outboard side. Disconnect the connector from the headlamp and another connector from the dash wire harness for the washer pump. Then remove the washer hoses, making sure they both drain into a separate clean container for reuse. Hold the top of the washer pump/motor housing and gently pull so the snap post comes free from the reservoir. After that, grasp the bottom of the housing and turn it to pull the pump inlet nipple away from the rubber grommet seal. Toss out the rubber grommet seal that was in the hole for the washer pump. When installing, rub a clean washer fluid onto the new rubber grommet and insert it into the hole where the mount will go. Guide the barbed washer pump/motor inlet into place on top of the rubber seal, then fix it securely in place with your hands. Lock the snap post from the motor housing into the reservoir's receptacle and press until the snap goes into place. Secure the front and rear washer hoses onto the right outlet nipples of the washer pump to prevent problems during operation. Attach the headlamp and dash wire harness connector to the pumps washer motor unit, install the plastic screws for the splash shield back, drive the vehicle down, connect the battery negative cable and refill the washer fluid reservoir.
