2006 Jeep Liberty Camshaft Position Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install the Camshaft Position Sensor on the Right Cylinder Head on 2006 Jeep Liberty?
A: The position of the Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) is at the front/top of the right cylinder head. Disconnect the electrical cable from the CMP sensor first and then remove the bolt that holds the sensor. Rotate the sensor to take it out of the cylinder head and look at the condition of the O-ring. When installing, wipe the machined hole in the cylinder head and apply some engine oil to the sensor O-ring. While holding the sensor downwards, gently twist it partway into the cylinder head and rock it at the same time so that it is flush with the cylinder head, avoiding any harm to the mounting tang. After you see that the sensor is flush, place the mounting bolt and tighten it to 12 N.m (106 in. lbs.), before reconnecting the electrical connector to the sensor.
