2006 Jeep Liberty Ignition Coil Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install and Remove an Ignition Coil on 2006 Jeep Liberty?
A: A separate ignition coil is put in each spark plug, slid into the hole of the cylinder head and secured by a stud/nut to the intake manifold. The spark plug is sealed at the bottom of the coil by a rubber boot, with a spring for mechanical contact which stays connected and is not serviced separately. The coil is sealed at the opening in the cylinder head by an O-ring. The coil may be removed after the throttle body air intake tube or intake box is taken off. Pull out the electrical connector from the coil after pressing down on the release lock. Pretreat the area beneath the coil by blowing it with compressed air so you can easily remove the mounting nut from the mounting stud. Pull out the coil from where it is inserted in the cylinder head, turning just a little, then remove it from the car. While installing the spark plug, use air to clear any trash from the top and look at the O-ring; if it's worn, then swap it out. The coil O-ring should be treated with silicone for installation. Put the ignition coil into the opening for the cylinder head and slide the spark plug stopper into the cylinder. Mount the coil and then tighten the stud nut to 8 N.m. After that, link the electrical connector to the coil and lock it in place. Add the throttle body air tube again if it was removed.
