2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser A/C Clutch Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install the A/C Clutch on 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Bring the dowel pin found on the back of the compressor clutch field coil in line with the compressor's hole and attach the field coil. Install a new snap ring with its beveled side outside and the two eyes set to the left or right of the pin in the center of the clutch coil, to secure it on the A/C compressor. Install a snap ring that fits the clutch field coil, using Snap Ring Pliers 9764 or an equivalent, until it sits fully in its groove. Always handle the friction surfaces carefully during installation, so the clutch does not fail too soon. Place the pulley and bearing set onto the compressor's front, using a block of wood to gently tap it if it is required. Always add a new snap ring to hold the pulley and bearing assembly, making certain its bevel side faces outward. Once more, put the pulley and bearing in place and secure it with a snap ring installed using Snap Ring Pliers 9764 or any similar tool. If you are reusing the old clutch plate and pulley and bearing assembly, attach the same original shims to the compressor shaft; if not, insert 2.54 mm shims to serve as a trial stack. Place the clutch plate in front of the compressor and hold it in place with the compressor shaft bolt. Then, tighten the bolt to 19 Nm. Once tightened, go around the drums and measure the air gap, making the pulley spin to ensure you find the correct measurement. If the clutch plate is recessed, use a 90° wire gauge to measure the air gap. Otherwise, check the gap with a blade type feeler that should measure between 0.35 and 0.60 mm. Run the compressor clutch field coil wire behind the connector bracket, fit the connector onto the bracket and attach the engine wire harness. Then, put on the accessory drive belt, fit the belly pan, lower your vehicle and link the negative battery cable.
