2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser Evaporator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How Can an Evaporator Be Serviced to Ensure Optimal A/C System Performance and Protect the Compressor on 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Before servicing the refrigerant in a car's A/C system, always adjust its oil level to help ensure the compressor is protected and avoid any unusual operation. Should the A/C evaporator be the only part you replace, insert 60 milliliters (2 fluid ounces) of the recommended refrigerant oil into the entire refrigerant system. Every time you open a refrigerant line, you should change the O-ring seals to keep leaks away. Should the foam insulation for the A/C evaporator be compromised, it should be replaced. As a first step, place the A/C evaporator and tubes into the bottom half of the HVAC housing and make sure the evaporator drain and insulators are set up correctly. After that, place the flange on the upper end of the housing and fix it in place with two screws that are tightened to 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Should the foam seal around the flange be damaged, you need to swap it out with a good seal. Apply the foam seal to the flange and set the air inlet housing and air distribution housing onto the main HVAC panel. Following that, set the housing assembly for your HVAC box and if necessary, include the oil specified for the A/C compressor in only the proper amount recommended.
