2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How Does the A/C Accumulator Prevent System Malfunction and Compressor Damage on 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: To stop A/C system faults and compressor damage, the refrigerant oil level must be properly adjusted during A/C refrigerant maintenance. In case of a faulty internal compressor in the air conditioning system, you need to replace the A/C accumulator to protect against more harm. For replacement of several A/C parts, follow the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart to obtain the right oil amounts. If the A/C accumulator is replaced and nothing else, put in 30 milliliters (1 fluid ounce) of the proper refrigerant oil when the system is filled. Make sure to add new O-ring seals or gaskets to the refrigerant line any time it is opened, to block possible leaks. The AC accumulator needs service apart from the accumulator tubes. For turbo models, the purge solenoid should be installed to the accumulator bracket by using the provided purge solenoid mounting bracket. Take away any tape or plugs from the lines after you open the refrigerant fittings and the accumulator and evaporator ports. Apply clean refrigerant oil to new rubber O-ring seals and add them, along with gaskets, to the refrigerant line and tube joints, using only the ones approved for R-134a refrigerant. Press straight down on the A/C accumulator to slip the accumulator mounting bracket into the rubber grommet on the right frame rail. Link each accumulator tube to the A/C accumulator and loose the two holding bolts. Attach the accumulator tube block to the evaporator tube tapping block and place the two retaining bolts, tightening them to 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.). Use a previously mentioned torque specification again when fastening the accumulator tubes to the A/C accumulator. Push the A/C suction line and the A/C liquid line into the accumulator tubes and after attaching retaining nuts, tighten them to 20 Nm (180 in. lbs.). The A/C low pressure switch goes on the A/C accumulator, O-ring and hand tighten it and finally attach the wire harness connector to the switch. If your S8 has a 2.4L Turbo engine, fit the purge solenoid into its bracket and, when needed, install the vehicle speed control servo as well. Put the negative battery connector back, run the machine again to remove the refrigerant so it doesn't get into the atmosphere and add 30 milliliters (1 fluid ounce) of the right refrigerant oil, if you replaced the A/C accumulator, to avoid overfilling. It's important to then charge the refrigerant system.
