2007 Dodge Dakota Clock Spring Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove the Clock Spring Assembly or Spiral Cable on 2007 Dodge Dakota?
A: Before starting to remove the Clock Spring Assembly or Spiral Cable, turn off the supplemental restraint system by removing and disconnecting the battery negative cable and allowing the system capacitor to discharge for two minutes. Push and turn the steering wheel until the front wheels face forward. After that, unmount the driver air bag and unplug the top Clock Spring receptacles that are attached to the wire harness for the steering wheel. While using a steering wheel puller, be sure that the screws are properly seated in the steering wheel armature but do not damage the Clock Spring. Lift the steering wheel off the column, then release the screw on the steering column knob and take the knob away from the tilt actuator on the left column side. Removing the outboard screws at the steering column base will allow you to push inward on the upper shroud and release the snap features holding it into place. Uncover the upper shroud from the lower shroud and steering column, unscrew the center screw joining them and remove the lower shroud. Remove both instrument panel wire harness connectors from the receptacles that are behind the Clock Spring housing and beneath the steering column. Unscrew the two screws that bond the Clock Spring to the multi-function switch mounting housing and ease the Clock Spring out. You should replace the Clock Spring if it or the driver's air bag becomes ineffective, damaged or has deployed, as it is irreparable. If you intend to reuse the receptacle spring, hold the rotor center with the case until it is ready for reinstallation or you will have to center it once installed.
