2007 Jeep Liberty Brake Light Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Brake Light Switch on 2007 Jeep Liberty?
A: Before attaching the brake light switch, cut the negative battery cable and wait two minutes so that the system can clear itself from a live battery feed. As the brake lamp switch self-adjusting switch plunger is only intended for one use, you should replace it with a new switch if you take it off the mounting bracket. The brake pedal should be depressed and held down at the beginning of the process. Put the tabs of the brake lamp switch locking collar over the keyed hole in the switch bracket and insert them until you feel the switch housing seated against the bracket. Turn the switch clockwise slightly until the tabs catch with the bracket. After that, take your foot off the brake pedal and don't let it go back up. Turn the plunger adjustment release lever clockwise until it is locked and make sure it is level with the brake lamp switch connector; this choice is not reversible and you'll need a new brake lamp switch if you go wrong. After that, attach the wire harness connector to the brake lamp switch and put back the negative battery cable.
