2008 Chrysler Aspen Camshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: What is the correct method for installing a camshaft on 2008 Chrysler Aspen?
A: To fit the correct camshaft, the first step will be to lubricate the journals on the camshaft journals with clean engine oil and slate the camshaft, with the sprocket dowel a little past the 10 o'clock position which is the neutral position to allow easy fitment of the bearing caps. Then place the camshaft in the cylinder head space and tighten with your fingers the bearing cap retaining bolts with the bearings installed in the caps. Tighten the bolts halfway turn cycles at a time inward to the center cap then outward and on to a torque setting of 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.). Position the camshaft drive gear against the timing chain locating the V8 mark against the two marked chain links. To hold the camshaft, on the tube section only use pliers, but not the lobes or sprocket section. Use adjustable pliers and turn the cams until the dowel on the sprocket lines up with the hole in the sprocket then install the sprocket and hand tighten the retaining bolt after collecting excess oil on the retaining bolt to avoid over-torque and probable failure. When the timing chain wedge special tool 9867 is removed, the sprocket retaining bolt should be torqued using Special Tool 6958 spanner wrench with adpator pins 8346 to 122 Nm (90 ft. lbs.). The last thing to do before reassembbling is to put the camshaft position sensor and the cylinder head cover.
