2009 Chrysler Aspen Camshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How is the Left Camshaft Installed on 2009 Chrysler Aspen?
A: First, place clean engine oil onto the cam journals and position the camshaft with its dowel in the 1 o'clock position so that the cams are in neutral for easier installation of the bearing caps. Put the camshaft into the cylinder head in such a way that the indicated caps face where the engine's front would be. Place the camshaft bearing caps and initially tighten the retaining bolts by hand. Each time, rotate the bolts a 1/2 turn until you reach 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.), tightening them following the specified pattern. Make sure that the two dots on the camshaft drive gear exactly match with the colored/painted timing chain link (3). With the help of Camshaft Holder 8428A, keep twisting the camshaft loop until you align the camshaft sprocket dowel with the corresponding slot and place the sprocket on the camshaft. Wipe off any excess oil from the camshaft sprocket bolt as removing oil helps prevent the bolt from slipping under high torque, then just tighten the bolt by hand. With 9867 Locking Wedge off, tighten the camshaft sprocket retaining bolt to 122 Nm (90 ft. lbs.) with Spanner Wrench 6958 and Adapter Pins 8346. In the last step, place the cylinder head cover.
