2007 Chrysler Aspen Camshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: What is the correct method for installing a camshaft on 2007 Chrysler Aspen?
A: First, apply clean engine oil to the camshaft journals and set the dowel of the camshaft's sprocket to be about 10 o'clock. This will make it easier to place the bearing caps. Next, set the camshaft into the cylinder head and then tighten all the cap retaining bolts by hand. Apply the retaining bolts to the center middle cap first and tighten each one by 1/2 turn until they reach 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.), moving to the outer caps as you go. Place the camshaft drive gear so the V8 mark sits between the two marked links in the timing chain. Pull or push on the camshaft only with pliers around the tube, as the lobes or sprocket areas should be avoided. Use adjustable pliers to spin the camshaft until the dowel lines up with the sprocket's hole, then install the sprocket and only tighten the bolt using your hands after you wipe up the excess oil to avoid too much tightness and possible failure. Remove Tool 9867 which holds onto the timing chain and with Tool 6958 and adapter pins 8346 apply 122 Nm (90 ft. lbs.) torque to the camshaft sprocket bolt. After that, fit the camshaft position sensor and the cylinder head cover.
