2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser Brake Booster Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Brake Booster on 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Open the vacuum brake booster by first unclasping the air cleaner cover and shifting it besides the engine. Remove the battery negative cable from where it is holding to the battery. Among the first jobs is to take out the master cylinder. In case the vehicle is fitted with ABS, remove the integrated control unit (ICU) from the system. Take out the vacuum hoses from the check valve on the power brake booster, so that the check valve stays in place. Remove the silencer pad from its position under the knee blocker and fold down and take out the knee blocker. Turn the stop lamp switch counterclockwise about 30 degrees, then pull it at the back out of the mounting bracket to release the wire connection and throw the switch away. With a small screwdriver, place the tip under the center of the clip and rotate it, so the clip's tang can pass over the brake pedal pin, after which you can dispose of the clip. Remove the booster push rod from the part connecting it to the brake pedal. Remove the four nuts joining the power brake booster to the instrument panel from under the panel beside the brake pedal bracket. Pull the power brake booster forward until the studs are no longer touching the instrument panel, then remove it by taking it out from under the engine.
