2008 Dodge Nitro A/C Compressor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Replace a Zexel A/C Compressor Clutch on 2008 Dodge Nitro?
A: Check that the lead wire from the compressor clutch field coil is out of the way, as you install the A/C compressor pulley and bearing assembly. Place the pulley and bearing assembly onto the front of the air conditioning compressor and use a bit of light tapping with a piece of wood if needed; be sure the snap ring is all the way into the slot to avoid clutch problems. Use a similar plier to 9764 as needed to seat the pulley and bearing assembly to the HVAC compressor using a new snap ring. Should you reuse the original clutch, pulley and bearing set, fit the original shims on the compressor shaft; but if not, start with 1.50 mm shims as a first stack. After that, install the clutch plate over the front of the A/C compressor and join it to the compressor shaft by tightening the bolt to 20 Nm. When done, test the air gap by measuring it in several spots and if it's outside 0.30 - 0.60 mm, replace or move the shims to fix the gap. Carefully wire the lead from the compressor clutch field coil and put the connector bracket in place with the retaining screw, tightening it to 4.3 Nm. Afterwards, connect the engine wire harness to the compressor clutch field coil connector, next install the accessory drive belt, radiator and fan shroud assembly and finally mount the coolant recovery container. Next, attach the black positive battery cable to its original spot.
