  A: First, you should remove the refrigerant from the system when working on or servicing the expansion valve. Unplug the poor battery cable. Take out the nut that keeps the A/C suction and liquid lines attached to the A/C expansion valve. Take the suction and liquid lines off the expansion valve, throw out their O-ring seals and set the lines so they're not blocking your way. After that, take out the two bolts that hold the A/C expansion valve to the evaporator tube tapping block. Remove the A/C expansion valve from the evaporator's tapping block and toss away the O-ring seals. In the end, put plugs in or cover with tape the openings made in the refrigerant line and evaporator tube fittings and every opening for the expansion valve as well.
