2009 Chrysler PT Cruiser Coil Springs Parts and Q&A
Q: How Are Rear Suspension Coil Springs Installed on 2009 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: When setting up the rear suspension coil springs, put a rubber isolator on each end with the rubber fingers curled around the coil and the abutment touching the flat edge of the coil spring. Each end of the coil spring can be placed as the top or bottom because they are the same. After that, put the coil springs onto the axle spring perches, placing them correctly in relation to the body. Twist the coils with the rubber pieces so the outside part of each upper spring end faces outwards and is set parallel to the axle's length. Put the coil springs into the spring mounting brackets on the vehicle, then guide the coil springs using a transmission jack while raising the jack until the lower shock mounting bolts fit though the lower eyes and axle brackets. Elevate the jack until the bolts in the mounting bracket can be attached, place each bolt and nut back on and tighten to a torque of 88 Nm (65 ft. lbs.). If a stabilizer bar is under the vehicle, fasten the lower parts of the retainers onto the slots on the axle at the rear. Then rotate the upper ends and tighten each bolt to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). Arrange the watts links and bell crank onto the axle so that when installed, the "BACK UP" text can be read from the rear on top of the axle. Match the watts link bell crank to the axle's center and attach it with a bolt, washer and nut, tightening it to 149 Nm or 110 ft. lbs. Put both sides of the tire and wheel assembly on the car, tighten the wheel mounting nuts to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.) and after screaming, verify that the car is at the correct height.
