2009 Dodge Viper Brake Disc Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Replace a Rear Brake Disc on 2009 Dodge Viper?
A: Put the rear brake rotor (4) onto the hub and bearing (1) wheel mounting studs, lining up the marked hole in the rotor with the same marked studs on the wheel if the one being replaced is being used. After that, mount the hydraulic brake caliper (3) to the knuckle (2) with the mounting bolts tightened to 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.) of torque. To seat the piston for the parking brake caliper, push out the retaining pin using a pin punch, remove the anti-rattle spring and shoes and insert Piston Retractor, Special Tool 6366 into the holes in the top of the piston. Work the piston all the way back into the caliper using the Piston Retractor, then take out the tool and insert the parking brake pads with the inboard and outboard shoes the same. Fit the anti-rattle spring in place and shove the retaining pin through the spring equal with the pads, then hit the end of the retaining pin with a pin punch to ensure that it's fully seated in the caliper. Secure the parking brake caliper (3) to the knuckle (1) and tighten the top bolt (5) to 32 Nm (24 ft. lbs.) and the bottom bolt (4) to 52 Nm (38 ft. lbs.). Subsequently, set up the wheel and tire assembly and screw each wheel nut on carefully, working from the top down and tightening each nut to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.). Then, take the vehicle back down. Organize the parking brake by pulling it up and down a couple of times so it doesn't slip and while stopped, push the brake pedal several times to make sure it's firm enough for decent braking. After that, press the brake pedal several times, level the brake fluid as needed and go for a road test, where you can make several stops to polish the brake shoes.
