2009 Dodge Viper Brake Caliper Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Detach a Brake Caliper from the Parking Brake System on 2009 Dodge Viper?
A: Put a block in front of your tire and wheel, wait for the wheel to completely lock, then pull the parking brake lever up. Then, remove the center console and slide the parking brake lever handle to the left. Pull the parking brake lever output cable upwards until you can insert a screwdriver or pin through the left hole in the lever, this will lock the parking brake automatic adjustment mechanism and remove strain from the parking brake cables. Lift the vehicle and support it and next remove the wheel and tire. Grab the car by the parking brake cable where the cable is attached to the pivot wheel and gently use the lever to pull it out continuously until you can take it off. Unhook the cable end at the apply lever on the caliper and remove the cable from where it attaches to the caliper bracket-that's where the cable housing is kept. Take the two bolts that connect the parking brake caliper to the knuckle out, then remove the caliper from the knuckle. Pull the hairpin out from the brake pad retaining pin and tap the parking brake pad retaining pin out of the caliper with a pin punch. Also, take out the anti-rattle spring and the parking brake pads.
